ARTISTMohammed-Salihu

Born (1998) in Accra-Ghana, Mohammed Salihu grew up in a ‘Zongo Community in Sukura. He became an intern student at C.Annor Studios in 2017, developing his interest in art, especially painting. In an old renaissance attitude of Master and apprentice, Salihu learned how to paint from Cornelius Annor, one of Ghana’s top contemporary artists. In his paintings, Salihu references portrait of people, landscapes, objects and materials from Zongo communities to confront certain stereotypes of the Muslim Zongo communities. Through acrylic paintings mixed with collage and silk-screen printing, he creates a sense of visibility around his community and shows the positive rather than the negative side. He currently lives and works in Dansoman-Accra, Ghana
